Thanksgiving

Today is Thanksgiving and I have much to be Thankful for. Sometimes I get so mired down in everyday living that I forget to reflect on the many blessings we have in this great nation we live in.

  • I am Thankful for the Indians that came to the aid of the early settlers for if they had not flourished we might be living in a country with out the freedoms we have grown to expect.
  • I am Thankful that my Mother has had 95 years of good health and for the most part been able to live as she desired..

  • Likewise I am Thankful I have enjoyed many years of good health and have a good family to support me.

  • This week I have been very Thankful for my Niece and her family for coming willingly to my aid while trying to take care of Mother.

  • Thankful for a great son in law willing to help at a moments notice and a caring daughter to lean on.

  • Thankful for a little granddaughter that brings sunshine wherever she goes.

OFF TO THE RACES

Saturday Night I visited the horse track "Hoosier Park " in Anderson. Usually I am pretty lucky betting on the ponies ... I know something about horses, I can read a program, I check the local paper to see what their handicapper has to say and bet with care... Holding a certain amount aside and if that dries up I quit betting and just enjoy the races... Well Saturday was no different.
We arrived before the first race and found our seats in the club house , ordered our drinks and dinner and placed the first bet on the favorite, a 2 dollar bet across the board... Right away I am 6 down. Well did not do well with that maybe I'll try a Trifecta Boxed. The top three can come in any order and I still win. with a .50 bet , that will only cost me $3.00 for the race. Picked 3 that should win and placed my bet. A long shot came in first. at 20 to 1 , somebody made some money there , it was not me. As the evening progressed I noticed the long shots were doing well so the next time I added a long shot to my mix... There were two in that race at 20 to 1 , the other one came in. Then I learned about a Super Trifecta which you can make .10 bets and the computer makes the pick. So for a $1 you had 10 chances on each race. That's the way to go I said to myself . I put down my dollar and they gave me two tickets full of numbers... The horses had to come in just in that order... My horses didn't. As the last race ran my last dollar also left.
Good thing the company was good, the food was good and it was a wonderful night for a drive.

Is it November Already???!!!

Yes I believe it is November already. Boy the month of October got away long before I got everything done I had on my list of too do's . Hopefully I will do better this month...
My allergies and hay fever are doing better and everyone else is doing better I think it seems all of us did not do so well during the weather change from summer to fall.
Mona has come through her surgery and her neck looks better.. I hated to tell her the dizzy spells would probably continue as she is just dizzy and the fuzzy thinking just her. Ha She is having more test done but at least she now gets blood to her brain, I guess one side of her neck was clogged pretty well.
Mother is doing well as far as holding her own.. She gets very tired and sometimes looks so pale. but she did not loose anymore weight this month and in fact we believe she gained a pound... she is at 107 now . She went with us to Amanda's for the Fall Supper and Costume Show.... other than being tired the next day I thought she did better than usual.. If I would only remember that when she goes anyplace to take her chair cushion and a pillow with her her ride and time there would be so much better..
Speaking of the party it was great fun all the tiny people were so cute and I don't know which costumes won prizes ( I did not and I thought I was a rather cute witch. ) but I loved Trent's pile of sheet because he had been on everybody's sheet list all year. and Amanda's whole family as the Wizard of OZ was great... too bad Tonya had to come as herself as the Wicked Witch, it looks like they could have found a costume and please T green skin is just not done anymore you must buy some make-up.

Tonight I had a close call with a bunch of killer oak leaves that dropped on my head as I sat in the hot tub . There I sat minding my own business just relaxing in the hot water when out of no where dropped a bunch of oak leaves on my head. Don't worry I killed them right away ..
Trapper Otila had taken two more raccoons out of the back yard.. She takes them five miles away to the park.. We are going to have to take food over to the park soon as they have so many of the critters from the back yard.. I bought a Scarecrow to put back there to scare them away not taking any bets on that working either. nothing else has.. Not human hair.... Deer repellent...mothballs, blood meal (although my plants liked that) Hot sauce. or any of the other things that I read about.. and tried.. Wanted to pick up some coffee grounds from Starbucks to put in the garden but was afraid I would then have little animals wire on caffeine.
Have been hearing from a few of you and that is real good . I share pictures and messages with Mother and it makes her happy to hear about what everyone is doing. I try to pass on new address etc to keep everyone up to date.. Now if all those address would just put thereselves on cards I could send Christmas cards to everyone..
Speaking of the Holidays The annual Thanksgiving Dinner is at Kokomo this year I'm sure more details will be coming soon if not just show up at Mona's church Thursday afternoon for great food and fellowship.
I think I will do something around Christmas how about Cookies and TEA and a visit. I'll let you all know which day.. or days.. In fact you don't have to wait for an invite the tea is always here and with Mother around there are always cupcakes or cookies.. So just drop in any time If you want more that cookies and tea give me an hours notice. and I'll cook.. I need to have someone over as mother wants me to bake pies and I can't eat them all myself . She's wanting pecan pies and I bought everything for them so will have to get busy. I have a pretty good wheat free pie crust recipe but of course she wants the regular but I think I will make me at least one pie wheat free. Of course if there are any other pies you have been wanting let me know I love to bake pies... or cakes or cookies .
Love you all and Happy Fall,
Clea
